Per-Ola Norrby receives the 2019 Ulla and Stig Holmquist's award

2019-10-14

Per-Ola Norrby, Principal Scientist at AstraZeneca Gothenburg and Professor at Göteborgs universitet and University of Notre Dame, USA, have been elected to receive the Uppsala universitet Ulla and Stig Holmquist's scientific awards in organic chemistry.

Ulla and Stig Holmquist's scientific awards in organic chemistry are awarded annually to research with mainly national background in the field of organic chemistry and which have made groundbreaking research efforts in this area. The prize amount is SEK 1.5 million.

Reason:
Through his research, Professor Per-Ola Norrby has made groundbreaking efforts to lift computational chemistry methods in the organic-chemical method set. He has developed calculation methods to clarify and, in some cases, also predict stereoselectivity in organic reactions with optically active reactants and products such as asymmetric dihydroxylation and epoxidation.

The award is presented at Uppsala University's winter promotion on January 31, 2020.
