Uppsala is one of Sweden's four major cities and is easy reachable by train by a 38 minutes train ride from Stockholm and 18 minutes from Arlanda airport.

Travelling to Uppsala

Uppsala is located 40 minutes north of Stockholm. Uppsala can easily be reached from Arlanda airport (Stockholm international airport), and several other airports in the area. The airports and how to get from there to Uppsala is described below.

Arrival at Stockholm-Arlanda Airport, Stockholm International Airport

Stockholm-Arlanda International Airport is located between Uppsala and Stockholm, 36 km south of Uppsala. This is the main international airport in the Stockholm - Uppsala region, serving all major international airlines and partnerships.

By bus

Bus 801 runs between Arlanda and central Uppsala once every hour between 1 a.m and 4 a.m, and twice every hour between 4 a.m and 1 a.m. The journey takes about 40 minutes. You can buy the ticket with credit or debit card on the bus (Am ex and Diners are not accepted). Ticket vending machines/desks are found also found at the airport. You cannot pay with cash on the bus. 

(Note: The bus company "Flygbussarna" connects Arlanda and Stockholm city. It is not recommended to go to Stockholm to reach Uppsala from Arlanda.)

By train

Trains leave Arlanda airport for Uppsala Central Station directly from Sky City.

PLEASE NOTE! Don't take direction Stockholm or the Arlanda Express.

  • Takes approx. 25 minutes.
  • Ticket Desk located at SJ Resebutik/Travel Office, in Sky City (next to Terminal 5).

By taxi

Taxis leave from outside the arrival hall. Be sure to tell the driver in advance that you want to go to Uppsala and not Stockholm - the two cities are in opposite directions from the airport.

  • Takes approx. 30 minutes
  • Costs about 460 SEK (approx. EUR 50). Ask the driver for a fixed price (“fast pris”) in advance. You can pay by credit card or by cash.
  • You can make an advance reservation with e.g. Uppsala Taxi: +46 18 100 000 or with Taxi Kurir, Uppsala: +46 18 123456. You can ask for a driver to be waiting for you in the arrival hall.


Arrival at Stockholm-Bromma Airport

Stockholm-Bromma airport is located 9 km west of Stockholm Central Station and 70 km south of Uppsala. Several international airlines are represented here. The airport bus runs between Bromma airport and Stockholm city bus terminal, next to the central station.
 

  • The timetable runs to connect with flight arrivals and departures.
  • Takes approx. 20 min to Stockholm  (depending on traffic).
  • Tickets  can be bought from the ticket-vending machines or on-line on the website www.flygbussarna.se. E-ticket purchased on-line is valid for 12 months from the purchase date.

Arrival at Stockholm-Västerås Airport, City of Västerås

Västerås airport is located 77 km west of Uppsala. Some low-fare airlines are represented here.

By bus

  • No direct shuttle buses from the airport to Uppsala.
  • Shuttle taxi from the airport to Västerås Central station.
  • Regional bus 773 or 774 from Västerås to Uppsala (in Swedish)
  • Takes approx. 1 hour 40 minutes to Uppsala.

By train

  • Shuttle taxi from the airport to Västerås Central station.
  • There are no direct trains Västerås to Uppsala, but you can reach Uppsala by switching lines in Enköping or Sala. Please see www.sj.se for timetables and prices.


Arrival at Stockholm-Skavsta Airport, City of Nyköping

Stockholm-Skavsta airport is located 110 km south of Stockholm Central Station and 177 km south of Uppsala. The trip to Uppsala takes quite some time and requires change of bus lines. The airport shuttle buses run between Skavsta Airport and Stockholm Central Station.

Flygbussarna

  • Runs about 30 minutes after every flight arrival. The bus waits for delayed flights. Timetable online: www.flygbussarna.se
  • Takes about 80 minutes to Stockholm.
  • Tickets can be bought from the ticket-vending machines or on-line on the website. E-ticket purchased on-line is valid for 3 months from the purchase date.

From Stockholm Central Station to Uppsala Central Station

  • 2-3 trains per hour during peak hours, 1 train per hour off-peak. 
  • With the train company called SJ the journey time is 40 minutes.
  • Tickets are bought from a ticket desk in the main hall of the station or from a ticket-vending machines next to the platform.
