About the Subject
The chemical industry, biotechnology and environmental protection are becoming more and more important, growing both nationally and internationally. Expertise in chemistry is therefore now more valuable than ever. All branches of chemistry are represented at Uppsala University both at the research and educational levels. Our programmes provide a broad and solid grounding in chemistry, together with in-depth knowledge within one or many branches of chemistry. These programmes are also involved in many exchange agreements, giving students the opportunity to spend a semester at a university abroad.
The Master of Science in Chemical Engineering degree programme offers two specialisations, one towards Materials and one towards Drug products, and involves close collaboration with industry as well as efficient communication training. Chemistry is also part of other engineering programs such as environmental and water -, bioinformatics -, or molecular biotechnology engineering.
The Bachelor's degree programme in chemistry comprises first a block of basic chemistry courses which progressively build upp a solid ground of knowledge and skills. Thereafter, students choose courses depending on which branch(es) of chemistry they want to specialise in (Analytical Chemistry, Biochemistry, Physical Chemistry, Inorganic Chemistry, Polymer Chemistry, and Theoretical Chemistry).
The Master's degree programme in chemistry is an advanced level programme that can be chosen after the Bachelor's programme. It is divided into specialisations: Analytical chemistry (where certain courses can be taken as part of the international Master programme EACH - Excellence in Analytical Chemistry), Biochemistry, Bio- and Nanomaterials, Chemical Biology, Chemistry for Renewable Energy, Organic Chemistry, Physical Chemistry, Theoretical Chemistry.
The Master's degree programme in battery technology and energy storage is an advanced-level programme that can be chosen after a bachelor's degree in chemistry or chemical engineering. Apart from common courses within, e.g., materials chemistry, electrochemistry, materials analysis and project management, the studies can be aimed towards two different tracks: battery materials and battery cells and systems, respectively.
The teacher education programme comprises courses given in the Bachelor's programme, with a focus on the block of basic courses, together with science education courses.
