Organic phosphorus compounds in the environment

Phosphorus is an important element for primary production and one of the factors contributing to eutrophication. Eutrophication of aquatic systems leads to algal blooms, and deteriorating water quality. Phosphorus is present in both inorganic and organic forms and our aim is to understand how the amount of the different organic forms changes over time in natural samples. Development of new analytical methodology for the identification and quantification of organic phosphorus compounds in environmental samples is thus one of our main goals.
