Analysis of the aquatic carbon cycle - Jeffrey Hawkes

Jeffrey Hawkes at a lake taking water samples.

My group investigates the natural aquatic carbon cycle using advanced liquid chromatography and mass spectrometry methods.

The aquatic carbon cycle is very complex and requires high resolution analytical techniques in order to determine the mechanisms under which reduced carbon is processed in the environment. We develop such techniques and work with collaborators in Uppsala and around the world to investigate the aquatic carbon cycle on Earth.

Research projects within Hawkes Group

  • High resolution mass spectrometry of complex mixtures
  • Comparison of preparation, separation and detection methods for complex environmental samples
  • Mechanistic experiments to understand environmental processes
