Why did you choose to study chemistry?

Deciding to study chemistry was sort of an accident. Chemistry was not my first choice. Many probably recognise themselves in that when you were young, it was difficult to know and decide what you would like to do with the rest of your life. I somehow found myself in the chemistry field and now I am happy that it is such a big part of my life.

How come you chose to study at Uppsala University?

I did my Postgraduate studies in Kenya at the University of Nairobi. As my PhD supervisor has had a collaborative partnership with Prof. Erdelyi for many years, I got a chance to come to Uppsala University to do my Post-doctorate.

Is studying here similar or different from where you studied before? How?

It is rather different here. In Uppsala we have access to everything and we have great resources but back home, at the University of Nairobi, Kenya, we don’t have such ample accesses. For example, to simply download an article is something that is taken for granted here, as a much more extensive pathway is needed to retrieve such an article back home.

Three quick questions:

1) First impression of Sweden?

When I arrived in Sweden the first time it was rather cold - and it was April!

2) Best experience in Sweden (or Uppsala) so far?

I have visited many interesting places around Uppsala, as well as the city Gothenburg, of which I was impressed.

3) What is your dream-job?

I would like to work as a researcher in academics, or in a pharmaceutical company.
