Solveig Böhme will defend her PhD thesis entitled "Fundamental Insights into the Electrochemistry of Tin Oxide in Lithium-Ion Batteries" on Thursday June 1st at 9.15am in Häggsalen. The opponent will be Dr Laure Monconduit from the University of Montpellier.

Chao Xu will defend his PhD thesis entitled "Non-aqueous Electrolytes and Interfacial Chemistry in Lithium-ion Batteries" on Wednesday June 14th at 9.15am in Å2005. The opponent will be Prof. Brett Lucht from University of Rhode Island, USA. Chao will nail his thesis on Tuesday May 23rd at 15.15 in House 2, Floor 3.

The titel is: “Iron Based Materials for Positive Electrodes in Li-ion Batteries: Electrode Dynamics, Electronic Changes, Structural Transformations”.
The time and place is: 09.00 in Häggsalen.

Kristina Edström received an honorary doctor degree at NTNU (Norwegian University of Science and Technology) on Friday the 10 of March 2017. 

 Daniel Brandell, Matt Lacey and Kristina Edström have been granted 4 MSEK by the Swedish Energy Agency as part of the project "Advanced research concepts for lithium-sulfur technology" in collaboration with Chalmers and Volvo GTT.

Habtom Desta Asfaw will present his PhD thesis on Friday March 3rd at 9:15 in Polhemsalen. The title is Multifunctional Carbon Foams by Emulsion Templating: Synthesis, Microstructure, and 3D Li-ion Microbatteries and the opponent will be Prof John R. Owen from the University of Southampton, UK. Habtom will also give a pre-dissertation seminar on Monday 20th February.

A PhD position in Neutron Diffraction is available at ÅABC. 

The following Postdoctoral Research position is now available at Ångström Advanced Battery Centre.

The Swedish Research Council Formas has selected Reza Younesi in the call for research and development projects for future research leaders in 2016. Younesi's proposal entitled "Rechargeable batteries based on naturally abundant materials" aims to develop electrode materials for soidum-ion batteries.

Daniel Brandell and Stéven Renault received research and development funding from FORMAS for their proposal called "BIOBATT - Biomass-derived materials for sustainable high-capacity batteries with energy and resource efficient recycling". 

We will host the first European workshop dedicated to electrochemical storage based on the use of organic electrode materials.

We would like to congratulate Reza Younesi, Assistan professonr in ångström advanced battery centre (ÅABC), who has been awarded the Benzelius award for his eminent studies of investigation of chemical reaction as an important parameter to develop future lithium-air batteries. 

Girma Gebresenbut will defend his PhD thesis entitled "Quasicrystal Approximants in the RE-Au-SM systems (RE = Gd, Tb, Ho, Yb; SM = Si, Ge): Syntheses, structures and properties" on the 30th of September at 13:15 in Å2005.

Adam Sobkowiak received Anna Sundström's prize for best thesis in inorganic chemistry in Sweden 2015.

Fredrik Lindgren will defend his PhD thesis entitled "Si negative electrodes for Li-ion batteries - Aging mechanism studies by electrochemistry and photoelectron spectroscopy" on Thursday, 2nd  of June at 13:15 in Polhemsalen.

Materials researchers at Uppsala University have made new discoveries in understanding energy storage in lithium-ion (Li-ion) batteries. This will help in the design of new materials for future batteries with significantly higher storage capacity than up to now.

Bing Sun won the ‪Chinese‬ ‪Scholarship‬ Council for her ‪PhD‬ ‪‎thesis‬ work at our group, Ångström Advanced Battery Centre, at Uppsala University.

Sara Munktell will defend her PhD thesis entitled "Bipolar electrochemistry for high throughput screening applications" on Friday, April 15th, at 9:15 in Häggsalen.

In 2015, researchers and students at Ångström Advanced Battery Centre (ÅABC) published more than 40 peer-reviewed articles in high prestige journals.

Hopes for double battery capacity within 5 years

Tim Nordh will defend his licentiate thesis entitled "Lithium Titanate as anode material in lithium-ion batteries- A surface study" on Thursday, 17th of December 2015, at 13.00 in Beurlingrummet.

The opponent will be docent Carla Puglia from the physics department - molecular and condensed matter physics at Ångström.

Fabian Jeschul will defend his licentiate thesis entitled "Functional Binders at the Interface of Negative and Positive Electrodes in Lithium Batteries" on Wednesday, 16th of December, 2015, at 16.15 in room 2005.

The opponent of this defence will be Gerrit Boschloo from Physical Chemistry here at Ångström Laboratories.

The ångström advanced battery center (ÅABC) together with LiFeSiZe company and Swedish Energy Agency will held 1-day symposium on lithium battery electrode coating technology.
