Professor Jacinto Sá och Cristina Paun har tillsammans skapat företaget Peafowl Solar Power, deras huvuduppgift är att skapa så effektiva solceller som möjligt, utan att kompromissa med utseendet. Det har lett till världens första transparenta solcell.

In the research program Physical Chemistry we conduct fundamental and goal oriented research mainly in photochemistry and chemical dynamics, laser spectroscopy as well as molecular and mesoscopic systems for solar energy conversion. Many of the professors in the Physical Chemistry program are part of the cross-disciplinary collaboration project of the Consortium for Artificial Photosynthesis.

Each year, the Göran Gustafsson Foundation give out several awards, one in particular is called the grand prize.

Associate Professor Haining Tian from Physical Chemistry was recently awarded a Wallenberg Academy Fellow for his research on catalysts for the solar fuels of the future.

Title: Exploring Dye-Sensitized Mesoporous NiO Photocathodes: from Mechanism to Applications.

Title: Probing Catalytic Reaction Mechanisms of Biomimetic Diiron Complexes through Time-resolved Absorption Spectroscopy.

Men hjälp av ljusenergi kan man flytta elektroner och protoner och därigenom skapa energirika tillstånd. Men elektronen och protonen vill gärna rymma tillbaka till ursprungsläget. I en ny artikel i Science visar forskare från Yale och Uppsala universitet att ju högre energi man har lagrat, desto längre tid tar det för läget att gå tillbaka. Tvärtemot hur kemiska reaktioner normalt beter sig.

SoFiA receives funding from the FET OPEN 2018 call within the Horizon 2020 program. Coordinated by Prof. Leif Hammarström from Uppsala University, the interdisciplinary project features 8 partner institutions from 6 different countries.

Wenxing Yang defends his PhD thesis, "Exploring Electronic Processes at the Mesoporous TiO2/Dye/Electrolyte Interface", in Polhemsalen, Friday February 10 at 10:15 hrs. Opponent is professor Jerry Meyer from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Prof. Joseph T. Hupp (Northwestern Univ.) gives a seminar on the subject "metal-organic frameworks" this Thursday, December 3, at 14:15 hrs, in the seminar room, Hourse 7, level 1. 

A painstaking work to find the optimum setting for all the knobs on a large mixing board. That is how Leif Hammarström described the work to develop a technology to produce fuel from sunlight. 

The Uppsala Regional Council awards the best collaboration efforts. This year, the prize goes to Hanna Ellis at UU and Cecilia Sundberg at SLU. The formal ceremony takes place at the regional association council meeting on December 10.

Gerrit Boschloo's research group at Uppsala University has discovered a "zombie solar cell" that continues to generate electricity with unexpected effectiveness although the liquid transferring charges between the electrodes has dried out. The results were recently published in the journal Energy and Environmental Science.
