In the research program Physical Chemistry we conduct fundamental and goal oriented research mainly in photochemistry and chemical dynamics, laser spectroscopy as well as molecular and mesoscopic systems for solar energy conversion. Many of the professors in the Physical Chemistry program are part of the cross-disciplinary collaboration project of the Consortium for Artificial Photosynthesis.

Men hjälp av ljusenergi kan man flytta elektroner och protoner och därigenom skapa energirika tillstånd. Men elektronen och protonen vill gärna rymma tillbaka till ursprungsläget. I en ny artikel i Science visar forskare från Yale och Uppsala universitet att ju högre energi man har lagrat, desto längre tid tar det för läget att gå tillbaka. Tvärtemot hur kemiska reaktioner normalt beter sig.

"Zombie solar cells" discovered

Gerrit Boschloo's research group at Uppsala University has discovered a "zombie solar cell" that continues to generate electricity with unexpected effectiveness although the liquid transferring charges between the electrodes has dried out. The results were recently published in the journal Energy and Environmental Science.
