In the group we focuses on Photosystem II and artificial photosynthesis

In the photosynthetic reactions, energy from light is stored as chemical energy. In the oxygenic photosynthesis this process occurs in the thylakoid membranes of green plants, alga and cyanobacteria. The electrons which needed to store the energy in the chemical form are derived from water. Water is oxidized to dioxygen, electrons and protons by Photosystem II, a very large enzyme. 

Artificial photosynthesis for fuel production is a quite recent field. Our knowledge about photosynthesis and the natural H2 forming reactions increases rapidly and during the last 10 years the three-dimensional structures of the photosynthetic reaction centers Photosystem I and II and many Hydrogenases have been solved.
