Magnetiska material undersöks vid IMAT
Polariserade neutroner för att undersöka magnetiska material
IMAT (Imaging and Materials Science & Engineering) är ett neutronavbildnings- och diffraktionsinstrument för materialvetenskap och teknik, beläget vid ISIS Neutron and Muon Source i Oxfordshire, Storbritannien.
För första gången har polariserade neutroner använts vid IMAT för att studera 3D-printade magneter.

Neutronavbildning vid additiv tillverkning
Neutronavbildning avslöjar texturvariationer och dolda platser för brottytor vid additiv tillverkning
Laserpulverbäddfusion (LPBF) är en av de mest använda teknikerna för additiv tillverkning (AM), ofta kallad 3D-printning. I LPBF används en laser för att selektivt smälta områden av ett tunt pulverlager (pulverbädd) enligt en digital modell. Nya lager läggs sedan till och processen upprepas tills objektet är färdigt.
Med hjälp av neutronavbildning har vi nu kunnat avslöja texturvariationer och dolda platser för brottytor vid additiv tillverkning.

Jakten på väte
Jakten på väte i högentropilegeringsbaserade metallhydrider med hjälp utav neutronspridning
Forskare inom programmet för oorganisk kemi lyckades 2020, i samarbete med forskningsgrupper vid Institutet för energiteknik i Norge, Sandia-laboratoriet i USA och spallationskällan ISIS i Storbritannien, lokalisera vätets plats i kristallstrukturen när den lämnar material baserat på högentropilegeringar.
