SYNTHESIS AND COORDINATION
CHEMISTRY OF PHOSPHAPORPHYRINOGENS

Abstract. Phosphorus has traditionally been used as a support for transition metals, but more recently has also found importance in molecular electronics, where it has been widely employed to modulate the properties of delocalised p- systems for applications in materials.
The chemistry of macrocyclic phosphorus ligands having extended delocalised systems is far less well developed than that of its linear phosphorus- containing chains and polymers. The lecture will present an synthetic approach to such systems, some preliminary data concerning their physical chemistry and an outline of their coordination chemistry towards third row elements in both their neutral and dianionic forms.
