Public lecture by the Faculty of Science and Technology’s honorary doctor 2018, Professor Jean-Pierre Sauvage, with the title From Charge Separation to Light-driven Molecular Machines.
Jean-Pierre Sauvage, born in 1944, is a Professor at the Université de Strasbourg, France. Sauvage is an inorganic chemist, specialised in supramolecular chemistry. He was one of the pioneers in artificial photosynthesis in the 1970s and 1980s, and in 2016, he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Chemistry for the design and synthesis of molecular machines. His relationship to the faculty has been warm and generous for the past 20 years. Sauvage was an important support in the build-up of the Swedish Consortium for Artificial Photosynthesis (CAP) that was placed at Uppsala University in 2006, and the scientific cooperation has taken place, for example, through researcher exchanges, guest lectures and joint publications.
