This project aims at the synthesis of new synthetic ion channels and the study of their self-assembly and function as ion channels. The synthesized ion channels consist of ferrocene molecules that will be linked together to form cyclic structures, so-called ferrocenophanes. The ferrocenophanes are stable in aqueous media and they have previously been used in other biological applications. The cyclic structures will be designed to include functional groups (e.g. hydrogen bond donors and acceptors) making it possible to aggregate into larger complexes. [Read more]
